In the aftermath of COVID, the loss of Charlie’s Kitchen, one of Cambridge’s few spaces for DIY shows, was a devastating blow to Boston’s music community. Their venerable slogan “Monday’s don’t have to suck!” was a small beacon of solidarity among punks, songwriters, and artists of all walks.
Luckily, thanks to the dutiful efforts of Brian Cross and WEBOOKTHINGS, that void has been filled for the past couple years by local shows most Mondays and Wednesdays at the Silhouette!
This Monday was no exception, with the back room at the legendary Allston haunt playing host to Milwaukee’s Marc-Alan Prince, who delivered heartfelt, gritty, working class folk-punk of the truest kind.
He was joined by local songwriter extraordinaire CE Skidmore, local master of doom-folk Coffin Salesman, and talented multi-instrumentalist Lynsey Moon (of Your Friends In Hell) who hopped on at the last minute due to a cancelled show!
Summer is in full swing here in Boston, and the local scene has been bringing a particular kind of heat lately that you really should witness for yourself!
You can catch Coffin Salesman and Lynsey next at the Midway on August 24 for a storytelling songwriters night, and CE Skidmore and her damn fine band at Faces Brewing with Lesser Devils on August 29th! As for Marc-Alan Prince, we’re all wishing him safe travels, and can’t wait until the next time he’s back in town!
Do yourself a favor and check out a local show at the Sil soon; see for yourself why Monday’s still don’t have to suck!
